ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women's basketball team fell to 14-9 on the season and 9-3 in the Southland Conference with a 63-46 loss to Western Division rival UTSA Thursday night at Texas Hall. With the win, the Roadrunners improve to 18-6 and 10-1 in SLC action.
Senior Tiffeny Riles led the Maverick with 12 points and six rebounds followed by 10 points from sophomore Meghan Nelson.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 13-point lead before Riles scored the first points for the Mavericks at the 16-minute mark.
UTSA built its lead to double digits with back-to-back tres from Terrie Davis with 8:10 left in the first half. Riles hit a jumper at the 8:01 mark to spark a 15-3 Maverick run to close the gap to seven (32-25) at the half.
A 10-2 run late in the second half gave UTSA a 61-33 advantage that put the game out of reach for the Mavericks. However, in the final 2:15 of the game, UTA scored 11 straight points to close the gap to 17 (63-46).
The Mavericks continue Western Division play on Saturday when they travel to Corpus Christi for a meeting with the Islanders at the American Bank Center.
