SAN ANTONIO - - UT Arlington's baseball team managed just six hits against UTSA senior starter Bradley Chovanec and fell in Game 2 of the three-game Southland Conference series on Saturday in San Antonio.
The Mavericks try to salvage a game in the series finale at 1 p.m. today. UTA (7-18, 2-6 in the SLC) plans to send Andy Sauter to the mound against the Roadrunners (18-9, 6-2), who won for the fourth time in their past five games.
Against the Roadrunners on Saturday, UT Arlington fell behind 3-2 when the Roadrunners got a run in the bottom of the third against Mavericks right-handed starter Nathan Long. By the end of the sixth, UTSA had a 7-2 lead and cruised behind Chovanec (5-1).
Long (3-2) took the loss after pitching six innings and allowing six earned runs on 10 hits. Ryan Martin pitched two innings of scoreless relief for the Mavericks.
UTA got six hits off Chovanec, but none went for extra bases.
The Mavericks left six runners on base.
UTA returns home for a double-header on Tuesday against UT Pan American. First pitch of the first game is set for 3 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
