SLU allowed four runs in the bottom of the ninth and fell to Lamar in the Noon game on Wednesday. Texas State (30-25) advances to the winner's bracket against the Cardinals.
The Mavericks fell behind early on Wednesday morning, giving up a five-run first inning and two-run second. Trailing 12-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth, Texas State scored 10 runs to turn the game into a route.
"Well, that was embarrassing," UTA first-year coach Darin Thomas said. "We didn't pitch well, we didn't play any defense and we couldn't hit the ball. We really didn't do anything right, and when we had a chance to score, we couldn't get a clutch hit. We just didn't do anything right."
UTA's chance to get back into the game came in the top of the third trailing 7-2. The Mavericks loaded the bases with two out but couldn't bring anybody home.
Mavericks junior left-hander Ryan Robinson (6-6) took the loss after going 3 1/3 innings. Mike Hart (7-3) got the victory for six innings of work.
Freshman catcher Chad Comer led the Mavericks with two hits.
Texas State had four players with at least three hits.
