HOUSTON, Tx. - The UT Arlington track and field teams wrapped up day one of the 2009 Houston Indoor Invitational on Friday. Action included the women's pentathlon and the beginning of the men's heptathlon.
UTA's Kimberly Strong finished eighth in the pentathlon with a score of 2,980.
The first five events of the heptathlon were also contested and UTA's Adolphus Jones is in second place with 2,850 points. UH junior Wesley Bray, who is competing unattached, is in first with a score of 3,002. Jones won the high jump portion of the event with a jump of 1.99 meters (6-06.25 feet).
Samantha Nash finished sixth in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.35 meters (10-11.75 feet) while Lauren Marks and Chelsea Pope tied for 10th with vaults of 3.05 meters (10.0 feet).
In the men's 400 meter dash "b", Gerrick Phillips finished 11th with a time of 51.76
The UTA track and field team returns to action at 9 a.m., Saturday, as they conclude competition at the 2009 Houston Indoor Invitational inside Yeoman Fieldhouse. Action resumes with the men's and women's shot put at 9 a.m., while running events get under way at 10 a.m. with the men's heptathlon 60-meter hurdles.
