LAST TIME OUT - UTA AT UTSA
A late UTSA rally resulted in a 5-3 setback for the UT Arlington Mavericks in the final game of the series at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio, Texas. The loss dropped the Mavericks to 8-16, 4-8 in conference while UTSA improved to 12-12 and 7-5 in league play.

UTSA attacked Maverick's pitcher Cara Hulme in the bottom of the first, connecting on a pair of hits and driving in two runs. Rudi Cantu led the inning with a single to left field, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a Leanne Risberg single up the middle. With only one out in the inning and two runners on base, Hulme loaded the bases when she hit Danye Holmes with a pitch. The very next batter, Hulme threw a wild pitch which plated Amber Anderson who reached on a walk earlier in the frame. Hulme regained her composure, striking out the final two batters and ended the inning.

Down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the second frame, the Roadrunners added a run after Kelly Kato was issued a walk and scored on a Cantu single to left center. The Mavericks were able to escape the inning with runners on first and second, when Ashley Kappler grounded out to Hulme and Risberg hit a lazy pop fly to the shortstop.

The Mavericks got the bats going in the top of the third, driving in a pair of runs on three hits, to come within one, at 3-2. Hulme connected on a one-out single to center field, advanced to second on a fielder's choice by Jaimee Stinson and came around to score on a Heather Fortenberry single to center field. Erica LeFlore continued the inning with a two-out single to left center, scoring Courtney Zink from second. Whitney Simpson ended the frame with a line out to the shortstop. UTA held the Roadrunners scoreless in the bottom half of the inning and added a run in the top of the fourth when UTSA began to struggle on the mound. The Roadrunners loaded the bases and let the Mavs tie up the game at 3-3 when Stinson was issued a walk. With the bases still loaded and two outs, UTSA got Fortenberry to pop up to the shortstop.

The Roadrunners retook the lead in the bottom half of inning, when Emily Humpal launched a pitch over the left center fence, for a 4-3 advantage. UTA was held scoreless in the fifth and sixth but UTSA didn't take any chances, as they added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Kelly Cato homered to right center. In the seventh, UT Arlington ended the game with three straight outs. Hulme (4-9) took the loss, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing five runs on six hits and fanning four batters. The Mavericks were led offensively by LeFlore who went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Fortenberry, Collom and Hulme each collected a hit.
