The UT Arlington softball team secured a pair of wins over Northeast Texas Community College and East Texas Baptist University Saturday afternoon at Allan Saxe Field.
In game one against NTCC, freshman Alexis Cantu got the start on the mound as she led the Mavericks to an 8-0 run rule victory. Cantu also had a good day at the plate, recording a pair of doubles and two RBI. Both of Cantu's shots were just inches shy of home runs.
After the Mavericks drove in their seventh run of the game in the bottom second, both coaches agreed on having newcomer Callie Collins come in and get some work done on the mound for the Eagles.
As a team, UT Arlington scattered nine hits, six of which were doubles.
Sophomore hurler Teri Lyles took the mound in game two against East Texas Baptist, leading the Mavericks to a 2-0 victory.
Senior Rebecca Collom's big bat was in full effect as she connected on a solo shot to right center, giving UT Arlington a 1-0 advantage.
Collins also made an appearance against ETBU, coming in relief for Lyles in the top of the seventh.
The Mavericks fall schedule continues Thursday, October 14 with a double header against Navarro Junior College. Game times are set for 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
