ARLINGTON, Tex. - Alicia Shaffer continued to make her case for Southland Conference Libero of the Year by recording 28 digs and helping UT Arlington extend its win streak to six matches by beating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 3-0 Thursday night at Texas Hall.

Shaffer's 28 digs marked the most by a Southland Conference player in a three-set match this season. The Mavericks finished with 80 digs as a team, which is the most an SLC team has recorded in a three-set match this season.

Behind the impressive defensive performance, the Mavs (15-14, 9-6) rolled to the 25-23, 25-10, 25-17 victory.

"We were everywhere the ball went," Shaffer said. "It felt awesome and it really boosted our confidence and made theirs plummet. We're still not done yet. We've got another week to go and hopefully more after that."

The Islanders (12-17, 5-10) hung tight in the first set and drew even at 23. However, the Mavs responded with the last two points to win the first set.

That first-set win, UTA coach Diane Seymour said, was the momentum swing UTA needed.

"It's really big for us," Seymour said. "I think the big thing is for us to remain composed at the end of the first set and win that and then come on out and get a bit lead and hold that lead. That's something we haven't done and we did that tonight. I'm happy with that, obviously."

Defensively, the Mavs held the Islanders to a .035 hitting percentage and forced the visitors to hit -.167 in the second set.

UT Arlington's seven consecutive wins mark the team's longest win streak since 2006.

Senior setter Raegan Daniel tied for the team-high with nine kills, one shy of her career high, while also accumulating 30 assists.

Another senior, Christy Driscoll turned in an efficient outing, notching seven kills and finishing with a .438 attack percentage. Driscoll also added three blocks.

"It felt good," Driscoll said. "I think this is my first game without any errors. Any time you can do that it feels really good."

Bianca Sauls rounded out the strong night for the seniors by posting nine kills and 17 digs.

Tara Frantz and Amanda Aguilera finished with seven and six kills, respectively. Aguilera added 12 digs.

Emily Shearin earned a team-best four blocks.

Emma Ridley led the Islanders with 12 kills while also tallying 18 digs. Still, the Mavs held Ridley to a .102 attack percentage.

"It wasn't so much that we were blocking her, but we just did a great job digging her," Seymour said.

The Mavericks play their final game of the regular season Saturday when they host UTSA on Senior Day at Texas Hall. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
