The UT Arlington men's basketball plays at North Texas Tuesday in its annual game with the Mean Green. The Mavericks, who are 5-1, are off to their best start since 2007-08 after defeating St. Edward's Saturday. A victory would give UTA a 6-1 start, which would tie for the third best in school history.
The Mean Green won last year's game 101-99 in double overtime at Texas Hall to break a five-game UTA series winning streak. The Mavericks have won the last three games in Denton including an 80-75 win two years ago.
Two keys for the Mavericks this season have been their shooting ability and their defense. UTA is shooting 47% from the field while holding its opponents to just 34.3% shooting percentage.
LaMarcus Reed leads the Mavericks in scoring at 16.3 points per game after scoring a career-high 22 points against St. Edward's.
North Texas is 4-1 after defeating Texas State Saturday. Tristan Thompson is their leading scorer at 19.0 points per game which leads the Sun Belt Conference.
The game might turn into a high-scoring affair as North Texas averages 78.6 points per game while the Mavericks are at 78.2 a contest.
