The UT Arlington men's basketball team faces its biggest challenge of the season to date as they take on No. 3 Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse Wednesday night.
The Mavericks are currently on a four-game losing skid which dates back to an 87-83 loss at North Texas. They lost their last game 73-56 at Texas Tech last week. UTA is 3-50 all-time against teams in the Big 12 and 0-17 against ranked opponents. The Mavs last played a ranked opponent on Dec. 30, 2009 when they lost 87-68 at No. 11 Michigan State.
UT Arlington has struggled from the field during this four-game stretch as the Mavs have shot just 37.3% from the field while their opponents are shooting 43.3%. These numbers are almost an exact opposite of the season statistics as UTA is shooting 42.8% and its opponents are at 37.6%.
The game is the fifth consecutive away from home, and the first of two games this week, for the Mavericks as they play at Arkansas Friday.
Kansas is 11-0 and led in scoring by Josh Shelby at 19.5 in his two games after missing the first nine games of the year. Marcus Morris averages 15.5 points per game while his twin brother Markieff averages 13.0 ppg and a team-high 9.0 rebounder per game. The Jayhawks shoot 53.5% from the field as a team.
The game can be heard in the Metroplex on KVCE 1160 or on kvceradio.com. It will also be broadcast on ESPNU with Doug McLaughlin and Kara Lawson calling the action.
