Adolphus Jones is on pace for an NCAA birth

Feb. 12, 2010

ARLINGTON, Texas - Day one of the Iowa State Classis didn't go exactly as planned. The majority of the team was not able to get on their flight to travel north. The only ones that made it were the long jump, triple jump and pole vault athletes. Coach

But that didn't bother senior Adolphus Jones. Jones is on pace to qualify for the NCAA meet if he can continue to do what he did Thursday.

"If he has the type of day that he had today, he will qualify for the NCAA and more than likely break the school record. He had a really good first day," head coach John Sauerhage said.

Jones has finished four of the seven events that make up the heptathlon. He ran a 7.26 60 meter dash, 23.3 feet in the long jump, 6-foot-8 high in the high jump and 42.4 inches in the shot put. Two of those were his career best as well.

Jones is currently in second place in the event.

The remainder of the track meet has been cancelled due to the weather conditions.
