Michael Choice hit his 23rd career home run with a two-run homer in the first inning

Mavs Drop Midweek Contest 15-2 to No. 7 TCU

ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington All-American Michael Choice launched his fifth home run of the season in a 15-2 losing effort on Tuesday against No. 7 TCU at Clay Gould Ballpark. The Mavericks (4-7) trailed 5-2 going into the seventh inning before the Horned Frogs (9-2) scored eight runs and sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning.

UT Arlington starter Mark Picca (0-1) took the loss despite striking out a career-high eight batters in 5.2 innings pitched. TCU junior Greg Holle (1-0) won his first game of the season pitching 5.0 innings and striking out a career-high seven batters.

The Mavericks bullpen allowed 10 runs (nine earned) and six base hits with four walks in 3.1 innings while the TCU bullpen used four pitchers in the final four frames who combined allowed four hits and two walks without giving up a run.

Choice finished the game going 1-for-4 with two RBI, which includes his two-run, towering home run in the bottom of the first inning. Choice moved into fifth place on the Mavericks all-time career home run list with his 23rd career home run.

Cody Dyvig, who entered the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh, went 2-for-2 with a single up the middle and an infield hit to lead UTA at the plate. Daniel Jordan (1-for-4) and Jordan Vaughn (1-for-3) also tallied hits for the Mavs.

In addition, Steffan Guest went 1-for-4 with a single up the middle in the sixth inning to extend his career-high hit streak to 12 games.

The Mavericks will be back in action on Wednesday, March 10, hosting Creighton for a 3 p.m. first pitch at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington.
