Frisco, Texas - UT Arlington freshman Teri Lyles has been named the Southland Pitcher of the week by vote of the league's sports information directors the league office announced Monday. Lyle received her second of the year and joins Sam Houston State senior Morgan Mikulin as the only players in the league to win two player of the week awards this season.
The award also moves UT Arlington into a tie with Stephen F. Austin for most team awards on the year with three each.
Lyles guided the Mavs on the mound to a 2-0 record against the top team in the Southland Conference, Stephen F. Austin. A native of Keller, Texas, Lyles made three appearances to finish with a 0.00 ERA, allowing only 10 hits, one run and striking out 10 in 19 innings.
In game one against the Ladyjacks, Lyles guided UTA to a 1-0 win in 9.0 innings of action, allowing zero runs on four hits. She then followed that performance with a 4-0 shutout win in game three. Lyles held her opponents to a .152 average and allowed less than five hits in her three appearances. She also pulled double duty at the plate, recording a .308 batting average, recording a hit in three-of-four games, including a pair of hits in game two against SFA.
This week's hitter honorable mentions are UT Arlington junior Rebecca Collom and Texas State senior Leah Boatright. Pitching honorable mentions are Northwestern State freshman Brooke Boening, Sam Houston State senior Morgan Mikulin and UTSA junior Emily Humpal.
To receive an honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland softball sports information directors.
Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for their own player.
