Frisco, Texas - UT Arlington sophomore Mindaugas Celedinas has been named the Southland Conference's men's tennis player of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Celedinas posted a perfect 2-0 singles mark and a 1-2 doubles record last week. He picked up a three-set win over the Southern Methodist University No. 2 player Tobias Flood (1-6, 7-5, 10-4), and followed that performance with another three-set win over Utah's No. 2.
The Vilnius, Lithuania (Mykolo Birziskos Gymnasium) native, and teammate Dmitry Minkin recorded an 8-4 victory over the 29th ranked SMU doubles team of Darren Walsh and Adham el-Effendi.
Honorable mention for this week's men's award goes to Texas-Pan American junior Ashwin Vijayaragavan and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior Dmitry Novokov. A student-athlete must receive 25-percent of the votes from the league's SIDs in order to qualify for honorable mention.
Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
