UTA track and field has a successful weekend

ARLINGTON, Texas - Maverick's track and field split for the weekend and attended two different meets.

The Mt. SAC Relays finished up with two mavericks running their personal best time in the 1500 meter run. Caroline Erlingson (4:36.31) and Christina Mose (4:45.02) ran their best time while Amanda McMahon ran her fastest time this season with a time of (4:42.07).

The other two athletes to attend were Jerono Patrober and Ozie Hood. Hood finished with a personal best in the 1500 meter run with a time of 3:52.45. Patrober finished the 5k with a time of 16:53.61. This time was fast enough to set a UTA record in the event.

The remainder of the athletes went north to the John Jacobs Invitational at the University of Oklahoma.

True to form, Jasmine Walls (11.95) and Shannon Reynolds (12.13) finished in the top six in the 100 meter dash.

Not to be outdone, Cordero Gray finished first overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.19. Following Gray was Lionel Mungwari (21.95) in seventh, Isiah Clements (22.28) in 12th and Andrew Pettis (22.29) in 13th.

The women also had three runners finish in the top ten in the 800 meter run. Esther Abuto, Jennifer Carey and Kisha Gaspard finished sixth, eighth and tenth, respectively.

Juan Lewis finished in sixth in the 400 meter run and the Mavericks finished with eight runners within the top 24 of the 800 meter run. They were led by Dwight Robinson, who finished fourth with a time of 1:54.12.

The women had similar success in the 800 meter run with seven finishing within the top 20. Esther Abuto led the women, finishing sixth with a time of 2:14.45.

The women's 4x400 relay team brought in third place with a time of 3:51.75.

The men's 4x400 relay team found similar success and finished fifth overall with a time of 3:19.72.

The short distance relay team did even better. In the 4x100 relay, the Mavs finished first overall with a time of 41.18.

Men's pole-vaulter Wade Hayes continued his successful run in the event. He came away in fourth with a height of 5.05 meters.

Next up for the Mavericks is the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
