Frisco, Texas - UT Arlington freshman Yauheni Yakauleu has been named the Southland Conference's men's tennis player of the week, the league office announced Tuesday. Yakauleu's recognition gives the Mavericks a total of five SLC Player of the Week honors this season.
Yakauleu led the Mavericks with a 3-0 singles record at the No. 4 position last week. With the three wins, he finished the season 5-0 in conference play.
The Minsk, Belarus native guided the Mavs to a regular season title and improved his overall singles mark to 14-6. Yakauleu won in straight sets over Nicholls and Texas-Pan American and recorded a three set win over UTSA's Max Stratmann.
Honorable mention for this week's men's award goes to Texas-Pan American junior Ashwin Vijayaragavan, UTSA freshman Tyler Brown and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior Dmitry Novokov. A student-athlete must receive 25-percent of the votes from the league's SIDs in order to qualify for honorable mention.
Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
