As the Mavericks enter the 2010 Southland Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed, four UT Arlington student-athletes were honored by the league office with post-season accolades.

Senior catcher Samantha Chumchal led the group with a first team selection while junior Rebecca Collom and freshman Teri Lyles earned second team honors and Cara Hulme was a dual award winner collecting third-team utility player and pitcher.

Lyles also earned the recognition of SLC Freshman of the Year. She is only the third UTA player to earn the distinction, joining Katy Cox (2001) and Heather Fortenberry (2007). UT Arlington also leads the league in freshman of the year selections.

Earning her third-first team selection of her career Chumchal recorded a .286 batting average, connecting on six home runs and driving in 23 RBI in conference action. She led the team with 12 doubles and ranks fourth in UTA history with her career 29. Behind the plate, the senior catcher finished with a .993 fielding percentage, committing only two errors.

Collom finished the regular season batting a team high .329, connecting on 50 hits including eight homers and drove in 29 RBI. In conference, Collom ranked in the top five in batting (.375), slugging percentage (.625), on-base percentage (.462), runs scored (20), and total bases (55).

The first baseman was also impressive against teams in the Big 12, recording a .333 batting average with four RBI and two runs scored.

Lyles pulled double duty all season on the mound and at the plate, recording a .313 batting average and led the league with a 1.64 ERA. The true freshman ranked second in opposing batting average (.206) and fourth in innings pitched (196.1). She ended the regular season with six shutout wins and fanned 109 batters. At the plate, Lyles connected on 46 hits including a team-high 12 multi-hit performances.

Similar to Lyles, Hulme also played dual positions, splitting time on the hill and in the outfield. The senior hurler is sixth in the league with 153 K's and picked up 13 wins in the circle. In her four year career, Hulme has compiled 544 strikeouts which ranks fourth all-time in UTA history.

Hulme's big bat was a huge part of the Mavericks offense as she led the team with nine homers, six of those coming in conference action. She finished league play batting .326 and led the team with a season high 36 base on balls.

The 2010 Southland Conference Tournament is slated to get underway Thursday in San Marcos, Texas with game one starting at 11 a.m. The tournament fields a six-team double elimination format with the winner punching their ticket to the NCAA tournament.

No. 3 seed UT Arlington will take on No. 6 seed Nicholls State Thursday, May 13 at 1:30 p.m.
