SERIES RECORD
The Mavericks lead the all-time series 36-28 over the Colonels... during the season, Nicholls State swept the Mavericks in Thibodaux, La. (Mar. 20)... in the Southland Conference Tournament series, the Mavs and Colonels are knotted up at 3-3... the last time UT Arlington faced off against NSU was on May 4, 2008 where the Mavericks dropped a 5-2 decision in eight innings in San Marcos.
LAST TIME VS THE COLONELS
UT Arlington dropped all three conference games on the road to Nicholls State... Teri Lyles took the losses in game one and three while Cara Hulme dropped game two... UTA lost game one 0-3, game two 4-6 and game three 2-3 in nine innings... Hulme recorded her eighth homer of the season in game two... Karr led UT Arlington offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and driving in a pair of RBI... in game three, UTA fell in nine innings when Nicholls State connected on a pair of hits in the bottom of the ninth , scoring the winning run... The Mavericks scattered six hits with a pair of Mavs connecting on multi-hit performances... Lyles recorded her eighth multi-hit performance of the season, going 2-for-5 with a triple, RBI and run scored... Samantha Chumchal went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
This marks the 23rd year of the Southland Conference Softball Tournament. It began in 1983 though no tournament was played between 1991 and 1995. Since it resumed in 1996, Texas State and Northwestern State have each won three tournament championships. The last 12 tournaments have had a different winner with the last repeat champions coming in the 1996 and 1997 tournaments when Nicholls won consecutive titles. The regular-season champion has won the tournament 14 times. Texas State is the last to have won both championships, doing so in 2009.
BOBCAT FIELD IN THE SITE
Texas State University is serving as tournament host at the recently constructed Bobcat Field. In the Southland tournament's 23 year history, nine regular season champions have hosted the event, three of which were held by Texas State, its fifth overall.

SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT BEGINS THURSDAY
UT Arlington makes their league-leading 20th overall and eighth consecutive tournament appearance after going 26-23 overall and 16-12 in conference play. Nicholls posted a 25-20 overall record and a 16-14 mark in conference play. After a one-year absence from the conference tournament, the Colonels make their eighth appearance in the postseason event. Nicholls swept UTA in the regular season series.
UTA'S Teri Lyles NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
UT Arlington's Teri Lyles led the league with a 1.64 ERA, was second in opposing batting average (.206) and fourth in innings pitched (196.1). Since the award's inception in the 2000 season, UT Arlington has received more freshman of the year selections than any other Southland university. A native of Keller, Texas, Lyles is and a second-team all-conference selection and the third Mavs freshman award winner.

UT Arlington enters its eighth consecutive Southland tournament having reached the conference postseason event in 20 out of a possible 23 opportunities, the most among all league teams. The Mavs rank fourth in the league with a 24-35 record in tournament play. UTA has four championship appearances and won its only title in 2003. The Mavs took runner-up finishes in the 2006, 2003 and 1987 tournaments. Under Coach Debbie Hedrick, the Mavs lead the conference with 224 wins against conference members. UTA boasts four all-conference selections including freshman of the year pitcher Teri Lyles who received second-team recognition. Senior Cara Hulme was the only player to receive dual honors as the third-team utility player and pitcher.
