ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington junior center fielder Michael Choice (Arlington, Texas) has been named a 2010 Baseball America First Team All-America selection, the publication announced Wednesday. Choice becomes the first ever Maverick to earn first team All-America honors from Baseball America.

The publication's first team consists of eight position players, a designated hitter, a utility selection, four starting pitchers and one relief pitcher.

It is Choice's third All-American honor following his junior campaign where he led the conference batting .383 with 16 home runs and 59 RBI on his way to earning Southland Conference Player and Hitter of the Year.

Choice has also earned All-America status by PING! and Yahoo! Sports along with being named to Baseball America's mid-season All-America team and being selected to four preseason All-America lists.

He led the country with a school and conference record 76 walks and broke a school record and led the league with a .568 on-base percentage that ranked second in the nation.

Choice was selected with the 10th overall pick in the first round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft by the Oakland Athletics to become the highest drafted player in UTA history and is only the second player in Southland history to be selected 10th overall in the MLB Draft.

He led the team with 67 runs scored, 138 total bases, .704 slugging percentage and with 12 stolen bases. Choice reached base safely in all 60 games of the 2010 season, and dating back to his sophomore season he reached base safely in 72 consecutive games.

Choice finished the 2010 season earning Southland Conference All-Tournament team honors after batting .384 in four tournament games with one double, one triple, five walks and a pair of RBI.

In 25 career games against nationally-ranked opponents, Choice batted .444 (40-for-90) with 22 runs scored, 11 doubles, one triple, five home runs and 23 RBI. He hit safely in 22 games and posted 12 multi-hit games with four games tallying at least three hits.

Choice became the first Maverick in school history to play for the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) as he was among team leaders batting .350 with 13 runs, three doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI. He was named to the World Baseball Challenge All-Tournament team and he was awarded the World Baseball Challenge Home Run Hitting award for belting the most homers (3) in tournament action.
