Men's Tennis Wrap Up Day One at HEB Invitational

Arlington, Texas - After day one at the HEB Baylor Invitational, the Mavericks will look for a better outcome in day two of tournament play.

"I have to say that we played very good doubles but felt short in singles," said Head Coach Diego Benitez. "Hopefully we can bounce back tomorrow and go deep into the draw."

In the round of 32, Brieuc Hamon went against Colin Hoover of Texas A&M and dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision. With the loss, Hamon moved to the consolation bracket where he dropped a 6-0, 6-1 to Aurelien Tave of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Minduagas Celedinas dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Baylor's Luis Grangeiro. Celedinas moved to the consolation bracket where he suffered a hard fought 3-6, 6-2 and 1-0 (6) setback to Sergio Wyss of Maryland.

Moreno advanced to the round of 32 where he faced off against Danny Gies of Air Force and took him down with a score of 6-3, 7-5. Moreno advances to the quarterfinals to face Paul Chappelle of TCU tomorrow at noon.

Junior Jason Lateko and newcomer Nicolas Moreno earned first round byes in the men's open singles while sophomore Giacomo Sano matched up against Felipe Frattini of New Mexico State.

Lateko dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Nathan Robinson while Giacomo Sano fell 6-3, 6-3 to Felipe Frattini. Lateko faces off against Alex Lineberry of Air Force tomorrow at 9 a.m. Sano will go head-to-head against Abdel Riani of UTPA at 10 a.m.

In doubles action, Lateko and Sano teamed up to face Baylor's Roberto Martin and John Peers where the duo fell 8-0.

Brieuc Hamon and Moreno paired up to face Alex Pavlov and Nathan Robinson of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and earned an 8-2 win. The tandem took the winning momentum into the round of 16 but dropped a close 9-7 decision to face Oklahoma State's Aleksey Bessonov and Rifat Biktyakov.

Celedinas and Lucas Leppin recorded an 8-4 win over New Mexico State's Armando Morales and Matej Stakne. The duo will take on Ricardo Hopker and Abdel Riani of UTPA tomorrow at 9 a.m.
