Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic Day One Results
Notre Dame, Ind. - A strong second 18 holes helped the UT Arlington golf team finish day one of the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic in a tie for seventh Monday.
The Mavericks did not start the day well as they shot a 16-over 304 in the first round but then came back with a 2-under 286 later in the day on Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course.
Wes Worster was the most consistent player for the Mavericks Monday as he is in a tie for 16th after the first day as he finished with an even par score of 144 after rounds of 73 and 71.
Zack Fischer improved by four shots from the morning round as he went 75-71 and is in a tie for 21st with a 2-over 146.
A pair of Mavericks improved by six shots from the morning to the afternoon round as Paul McConnell went from 77 to a 71 and is in a tie for 27th whiel Enrique Livas improved to a 73 after a first round 79 and is in a tie for 52nd.
Jesse Gibson shot 82 in the morning round and he followed that with a 79 and is in a tie for 75th with a score of 161.
Jamey Taylor is playing as an individual and shot 76-75 and is in a tie for 46th.
The host Irish and Iowa are tied for the team lead with 7-under totals of 567. Tom Usher of Notre Dame and Taylor Travis of San Francisco are the co-medalists after the first day at 5-under 139.
The tournament, which the Mavs finished fourth last year, concludes with a single 18 hole round Tuesday.
