ARLINGTON, Tex. - Cordero Gray, Dwight Robinson and Juan Lewis ran themselves into the top 25 of their primary events Saturday during the season-opening Texas A&M Challenge.
Gray ranks in the top 10 in two events - the 60m and the 200m. He is currently sixth in the nation in the 60m with a time of 6.69 and 10th in the 200m with a time of 21.25.
All three seniors set personal-best indoor times at the meet. Robinson and Gray currently hold the best times of the 2011 season in the Southland Conference - Robinson in the 800m and Gray in the 60m and 200m. Lewis' time of 48.28 is second in Southland Conference in the 400m and 14th overall.
Robinson's time of 1:51.86 places him 21st in the nation.
Gray's 60m time marked a personal best and was 0.01 second away from tying Jared Connaughton's school record.
Isiah Clements narrowly missed the top 50. His best high jump of 2.05 meters ranks 58th in the nation.
The Mavericks hope to add more athletes among the nation's elite this weekend when they head to Norman, Okla. for the Sooner Open I.
