Cross country closes out season in Waco

Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington men's and women's cross country teams closed out the 2011 season Saturday morning at the NCAA South Central Region Championships in Waco, Texas. As a team, the women finished in 21st place with 537 points.

Newcomer Maria Sandstrom led the Mavericks with a 70th place finish with a time of 22:58.9 while Lindsey Putman recorded a 106 place finish with a time of 24:06.0.

Marissa Paz crossed the finish line in 113th place with a time of 24:17.0 while Jennifer Campos clocked a time of 24:19.5 for 116th place.

Sydney Hampton recorded a 135th place finish with a time of 25:06.9. Arkansas (49) took first place while Texas (69), Texas A&M (90), SMU (128) and Rice (129 rounded out the remaining four spots.

On the men's side, sophomore David Rayo led the men's team with a 79th place finish with a time of 33:21.6 while Emil Blomberg turned in an 82nd place finish with a time of 33:45.9.

Zack Zura crossed the finish line in 88th place with a time of 34:11.2 while Hance Loyd clocked a time of 34:25.8 for 94th place.

With only four UT Arlington athletes running in the 10K they did not place as a team. Texas (40), Texas A&M (56), Arkansas (65), Lamar (93) and UTSA (196) rounded out the top five spots.
