ARLINGTON, Tex. - The UT Arlington men's basketball team takes on a past and future fellow conference member Saturday night when it hosts Louisiana Tech at Texas Hall at 7 p.m.
Louisiana Tech, a former Southland Conference team, is now in the Western Athletic Conference. The Mavericks will move to the WAC on July 1, 2012.
Fans can gain free admission by bringing three cans of canned goods to the front of Texas Hall. The Student-Athletes Advisory Committee will be set up in front of Texas Hall, running its canned food drive.
Head coach Scott Cross and his Mavericks look to improve to 2-0 on the young season after blowing out East Texas Baptist 99-64 in Monday night's season opener. The Mavericks have started the season 2-0 three times under Cross, but have not done so since the 2008-09 season.
"We are definitely excited about what we think will be a real test tomorrow night against a very good Louisiana Tech team," Cross said. "I thought we played well at times Monday against East Texas Baptist, but there is still plenty of room for improvement."
Texas Hall has been kind to the Mavs over the last few years. They are 44-13 at home since the start of the 2007-08 season.
Last time out, Bo Ingram led the Mavericks with 19 points in just 15 minutes. LaMarcus Reed III chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds. Both players were named second team preseason All-Southland Conference.
Tip-off for Saturday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
