After an extended break from competition due to finals, the UT Arlington men's basketball team played only twice in the last three weeks. But that is about to change this week.
In their final games before the Christmas break, the Mavs will play three games in three days as they start play at the Athletes in Action Classic in Logan, Utah against the host Utah State Aggies.
Tuesday's game will be the first between UTA and USU in what will be a matchup against teams that will both be in the WAC next year.
The Mavericks lost a heart-breaking 80-75 game at Tulsa Saturday night as the Golden Hurricane scored the last basket in regulation and then made seven free throws in the last minute of overtime to win the game.
LaMarcus Reed scored a game-high 20 points at Tulsa to lead the Mavericks and comes into the game leading the team in scoring at 13.6 points per game. The Mavericks enter the week ranked 33rd in the nation in rebounding and 34th in the country in scoring.
Utah State has won 30 or more games in each of the last four years but has started this season 5-5. The Aggies are led in scoring by Preston Medlin at 13.7 per game.
After this game, the Mavericks will play Kent State on Wednesday and Saint Peter's Thursday to finish off the tournament.
As always the game can be heard in the Metroplex on KVCE (1160 AM) or kvceradio.com
