March 19, 2011

Final Stats

Conway, Ark. - The UT Arlington softball team split with Central Arkansas in Saturday's double-header at the Farris Field. UTA recorded a 4-2 12 inning victory in game one and dropped a 6-2 decision in game two.

After the double-header, the Mavericks are 19-12 overall and 6-2 in conference action.

It took the Mavs 12 innings but with true freshman Callie Collins in the circle and senior Courtney Enocksen's two-run homer to left field, UTA was able to pull out the win.

Collins (11-3) recorded the win in game one, pitching 12 complete innings, allowing only two runs on eight hits while striking out seven. It was the second time this season that Collins recorded a win in extra innings.

The Mavs and Sugar Bears were held scoreless through 10 innings but in the 11th UTA took a 1-0 lead following a sacrifice fly to right field by Erica LeFlore which scored pinch runner Kari Karr.

In the bottom half of the inning, UCA tied the game at 1-1 following a throwing error by Collins.

With the Mavericks tied at 1-1 in the 12th inning, Enocksen connected on a two- home run to left field to put UTA on top 3-1. The home run was Enocksen's second of the season. Charne Office gave UTA an insurance run with a single to shortstop, making it 4-1.

Central Arkansas's Taylor Dear plated a run in the bottom half of the inning but Collins stayed composed and got the final two batters to line out and fly out.

Enocksen finished the game 1-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and run scored. Courtney Zink was the only Maverick to finish with a pair of hits, going 2-for-5 with a double and run scored.

After a long extra inning game one, UT Arlington moved to game two but didn't have the same luck. The Mavs suffered a 6-2 loss and dropped only their second conference game of the season.

Sophomore Teri Lyles took the loss in the circle, falling to 7-8 on the season. Lyles pitched six innings, allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out three. Office led the UTA offensively, connecting on a pair of hits. The junior went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

LeFlore gave the Mavericks an early 1-0 advantage in the first inning after she ripped a single to center field scoring Rebecca Collom. Collom reached on a base-on-balls earlier in the inning. The senior leads the team with 30 walks this season.

A single to center field by Kasey Britt in the bottom half of the inning tied the game at 1-1. The Sugar Bears plated three runs in the next inning to take a 4-1 lead. Central Arkansas connected on two more runs in the fourth.

Office gave the Mavs their second run of the game in the seventh after she singled down the left field line scoring pinch runner Kallan Thompson.

The Mavericks wrap up the three game series tomorrow at noon.
