Men play final two conference matches on the road

April 14, 2011

Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington men's tennis team won their first conference match against Texas-Pan American (Apr. 8) and carried the momentum into Saturday where they defeated UC Santa Barbara.

UTA was unable to take the momentum on the road, falling 7-0 to No. 13 Baylor at the Baylor Tennis Center.

Junior David Subirats leads the team in singles action with a 10-5 record and a perfect 3-0 mark in conference. Freshman Nicolas Moreno is not far behind with a conference record of 2-0. Moreno's biggest win of the season came on March 28 against conference opponent No. 73 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi where he recorded a 6-4, 6-3 win.

The duo of senior Breiuc Hamon and freshman Lucas Leppin own an 11-5 doubles record and a 2-1 conference mark. Mindaugas Celedinas and Subirats are the only doubles team to remain perfect in conference with a record of 2-0.

UT Arlington will play out the rest of their season on the road. The Mavericks travel to Nicholls State on Friday and follow with a Saturday match up against Lamar. Match times are set for 1:30 p.m. and 1 p.m.
