April 30, 2011

Final Stats

NACOGDOCHES, Tex. - Stephen F. Austin scored four runs in the fourth and five in the eighth and held off UT Arlington for a 10-2 win Saturday afternoon at Jaycees Field.

Bryson Myles went 3-for-4, scored twice, drove in two and stole a base to help lead the Lumberjacks.

SFA starter Tyler Herriage went 6.0 innings, limiting the Mavs to two runs on five hits to earn his second win of the season.

Landon Kozeny worked the final 3.0 innings to earn his first career save.

For the second straight day, Stephen F. Austin (29-13, 16-7) jumped out to a first-inning lead on a Darren Crabtree RBI. This time Crabtree lofted a sacrifice fly to left field to score Bryson Myles, who led off the game with a single.

After the Mavericks tied the game in the third, the Lumberjacks recaptured the lead in the fourth when Justin McAninch singled home Jarid Scarafiotti. They chased UTA starter Calan Pritchard from the game later in the inning. Myles continued the rally by driving a two-run single up the middle. SFA added another run later in the frame when Crabtree got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

None of the final three runs the Lumberjacks scored were earned after a two-out error by the Mavericks (25-19, 13-10).

UT Arlington had a chance to counter in the fifth, but left the bases loaded. The Mavericks left 12 runners on base in the loss.

Ryan Walker helped the Mavericks score their first by scorching a ball that ate up the Stephen F. Austin shortstop. The shot allowed Philip Incaviglia, who drew a two-out walk and stole second, to score.

Jordan Vaughn drove in the other UTA run in the sixth.

UT Arlington will look to take the rubber game of the series Sunday afternoon when the two teams resume play at 1 p.m. at Jaycees Field.
