ARLINGTON, Tex. - UT Arlington senior Cordero Gray has been named the Southland Conference men's track and field athlete of the week, the league announced Wednesday.
Gray, a native of Kennedale, Texas, finished as the top collegiate athlete in the 100-meter dash at the Bobby Lane Invitational, recording a Southland Conference top time of 10.26 seconds. That mark is also currently the 10th best time in the nation. The sprinter also finished second among collegiate athletes in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.77, which also paces the conference field.
Gray's weekend put him atop the conference in three categories - including in the 4x100, in which the team finished third at UTA's home meet.
A student-athlete must receive 25-percent of the votes from the league's SIDs in order to qualify for honorable mention. Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
