ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis team jumps back into Southland Conference action after winning a 4-3 decision against North Texas Thursday at the UTA Tennis Center.
With the women's success comes acknowledgement as they are now ranked the highest they have been all year at No. 58.
The Mavs easily won all three doubles matches but had a difficult outing in singles letting the Mean Green even up at 3-3. Junior transfer Natalia Mayuk was the deciding factor in the match and came through in the third set to lead the women to the victory.
Junior Maria Martinez-Romero, Linda Aqvist and Giada D'ortona all have a perfect singles record in conference with an 8-0 mark. Senior Daiana Negreanu and Mayuk follow with a 7-1 record.
In doubles, Martinez-Romero and Nikola Matovicova are 8-0 while D'ortona and Mayuk aren't far behind with a record of 6-0 in conference.
With just three conference matches remaining on UTA's schedule, the Mavericks look to end the regular-season undefeated in the league and dominate the tournament.
The victory over the Mean Green gave the Mavericks their fifth straight win and sixth against a non-conference opponent.
UTA will host their final home match of the season on Sunday, April 10, when they take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (8-3). Match time is set for 11 a.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
