The UT Arlington softball team enters the 2011 Southland Conference Tournament in Huntsville, Texas as the No. 2 seed. UTA will face the winner of No. 3 Texas State and No. 6 Northwestern State on Thursday, May 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Mavericks wrapped up the regular-season with a 33-23 overall and 20-10 conference record. The 30 plus wins marks the fifth time a team has recorded under head coach Debbie Hedrick's direction.
The Mavs closed out the regular-season winning two of three against A&M-Corpus Christi. After winning both game one and two, the Mavericks dropped game three which determined who would be named the SLC regular-season champions.
On Tuesday, the league announced the all-conference teams where eight Mavericks represented UT Arlington including true freshman Callie Collins. Collins was named the SLC Pitcher of the Year after posting an 18-9 record with a 1.60 ERA in 188.1 innings pitched. The first-team all-conference selection also recorded the second most strikeouts in the conference with 197 and held her opponents to a .187 batting average.
Senior first baseman Rebecca Collom earned first-team all-SLC honors for the first time in her career. Collom connected on a team high 12 home runs, bringing her career total to 36. Collom's 36 homers is first in UTA's all-time list.
Juniors Erica LeFlore and Charne Office made their way onto the third team all-conference team for their first time in their careers. Four Mavericks also made their way onto the honorable mention list as junior Courtney Zink, junior transfer Kersti Rowan, freshman Stephanie Gonzalez and sophomore Teri Lyles all represented UT Arlington.
SERIES VS NO. 3 TEXAS STATE
The Mavericks own a 56-42 series advantage over the Bobcats and are 3-0 against them this season. UTA swept the Bobcats in the first series of the season. SERIES VS NO. 6 NORTHWESTERN STATE
UTA owns a 38-33 series lead over the Lady Demons. The Mavericks finished the regular-season with a 1-2 mark over NWST. The last time UTA faced the Lady Demons in the conference tournament was on May 3, 2003 where they recorded a 4-0 victory in Natchitoches, LA.
