BEAUMONT, Tex. - Ted Zentek went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and five RBI to lead Lamar past UT Arlington, 10-5 Friday night at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
The loss ran the Mavericks' losing streak to seven games and pulled the Cardinals to within a game of UTA.
Zentek's two-run home run broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth and opened the scoring in the four-run frame. He also extended the lead in the eighth with a two-out, three-run double down the left-field line.
UT Arlington (25-25, 13-15) scored in each of the first two innings, but both times the Cardinals responded immediately.
Brian Nephew gave the Mavericks the lead in the first with an RBI double. Jesse Payne followed with a run-scoring groundout.
Ryan Walker came through to drive home UT Arlington's run in the second with an RBI single to left-center field. Walker's two-out hit scored Philip Incaviglia, who notched a single and stole second to get into scoring position.
Lamar (26-23, 12-16) scored on a throwing error in the first and Jeff Abt smacked a two-run single in the second.
Cardinals starter Blake worked a complete game to earn his sixth win of the season. He helped his cause by inducing three groundball double plays.
Nephew led the Mavericks with three hits, including a double, with a run and an RBI.
Walker, Preston Beck, Jordan Vaughn and Incaviglia each added two hits.
UT Arlington and Lamar return to action Saturday when the two teams face off at 2 p.m. at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
