Final Stats
BEAUMONT, Tex. - Lamar scored 10 runs in the first inning and went on to beat UT Arlington 14-6 Saturday afternoon at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
The Cardinals tagged a pair of UTA pitchers in the first for 10 runs on eight hits with three walks. They finished with 18 hits.
The Mavericks made it interesting in the middle innings, scoring three runs in the fourth and fifth, but could never catch the Cardinals.
Nick Orr put the Mavericks on the board with an RBI double in the fourth inning. Philip Incaviglia added a two-run single to give UTA three runs in the frame.
Jesse Payne started the scoring in the fifth with an RBI double to score Preston Beck. Chad Comer followed with an RBI single to left field to pull UTA closer. The Mavs scored again when Payne scored on a double play.
That was as close as UT Arlington would get.
Jude Vidrine blasted a two-run home run to center field in the bottom of the sixth to extend Lamar's lead to 13-6. The Cardinals added their final run in the seventh.
Payne led UTA with three hits. Beck, Comer and Orr added two hits apiece.
Ted Zentek went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI to lead the Cardinals.
The Mavericks have now lost eight consecutive games. They started the day in a three-way tie for sixth in the standings. Lamar (27-23, 13-16) is now tied with the Mavs (25-26, 13-16).
UT Arlington will look to salvage one game in the series against Lamar when the two teams square off Sunday at 1 p.m.
