Final Stats
RUSTON, La. - Kyle Roliard's RBI single in the eighth inning broke a tie and lifted Louisiana Tech past UT Arlington for a 6-4 win Tuesday night at J.C. Love Field.
Chad Comer went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored to lead the Mavericks.
The loss meant UT Arlington finished its roadtrip at 4-4.
The Mavericks scored first when they notched a couple in the second inning. Cody Dyvig started the scoring when his sacrifice fly brought home Jesse Payne, who led off the frame with a single. Comer scored later in the inning on a two-out single from Nick Orr.
Louisiana Tech responded with an RBI groundout in the second. Colby Johnson's solo home run in the fourth tied the game.
Alex Williams broke the 2-2 tie in the seventh when he blasted his first home run of the season.
Comer doubled home Brian Nephew and Payne to pull the Mavs to within a run in the eighth. The senior catcher later scored the tying run when Preston Morrow reached on Williams' error.
An error played a critical role in the decisive bottom of the eighth as well. The Mavericks committed an error on what would have been the final out of the inning, allowing Roliard to come up with the game on the line.
Will Alvis followed with another RBI single to add an insurance run. Neither run the Bulldogs scored in the eighth was earned.
Trevor Peterson came on in the ninth to record the save.
Jesse Payne had two hits. Dyvig had a hit to go along with his RBI and also stole a couple bases.
UT Arlington returns home Friday when it hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a three-game series at Clay Gould Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
