BSB: Mavericks blanked at home by Dallas Baptist

May 1, 2012

Final Stats

ARLINGTON, Texas - Dallas Baptist scratched across all the scoring it needed in the seventh inning to beat UT Arlington 3-0 Tuesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The Mavericks lost for the fourth time in five games to drop to 27-18. The Patriots improved to 30-14.

UTA was shutout out by DBU starter Cy Sneed and reliever Michael Smith on eight hits. The Mavericks have been blanked twice in the last three games, scoring just one run in that span.

Both teams struggled offensively for most of the game, which remained scoreless into the seventh. Starting pitchers Adam Boydston of UTA and Sneed worked around trouble, especially in the early going.

The Mavericks had their chances early. UTA right fielder Preston Beck, the Southland Conference's RBI leader, couldn't get teammates home from third with less than two outs in his first two at-bats.

The Patriots did their damage in the seventh, turning two hits and an error into three runs.

The Mavericks and Patriots resume the two-day, nonconference series Wednesday night (6:30 p.m.) at Dallas Baptist.
