LAKE CHARLES, La. - UT Arlington couldn't hold on to two slim leads Sunday in dropping a Southland Conference doubleheader to McNeese State by identical 2-1 scores at Cowboy Diamond. The loss in the series finale came in 10 innings.

The Mavericks will look back on a weekend as an opportunity lost. UTA struggled at the plate and on the basepaths, and was underdone by untimely errors in being swept for the first time since the Southeastern Louisiana series from March 23-25.

The Mavericks are 29-23 overall and 16-14 in the SLC. McNeese State (22-26, 16-14) won the series opener, 4-2, on Friday.

UTA returns home for their its Southland series ever, with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi visiting Clay Gould Ballpark for a three-game set beginning Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

UTA struck first in the second game in the second inning, with Michael Guerra scoring on Travis Sibley's sacrifice fly to right.

John Beck made his first start since March 2 in the second game and worked five shutout innings. Zach Thompson pitched a scoreless sixth, but the Cowboys tied the game with an unearned run off Adam Westbrook in the seventh.

Seth Granger won in the 10th with a solo home run to right.

UTA also took the early lead in the first game, as Guerra walked to lead off the second inning and eventually scored. The junior second baseball stole second, advanced to third on Preston Morrow's infield hit and came home on a throwing error.

The Cowboys came back with tying run in the bottom of the inning on two hits. The teams traded zeroes for the next five innings before McNeese State scratched a run across.

Granger opened the eighth with a tower fly ball that UTA right fielder Preston Beck lost in the sun. The ball bounced off the wall and Granger ended up with a leadoff triple.

After UTA reliever Adam Boydston coaxed two outs, keeping Granger at third, before Collin Todd singled through the left side to give McNeese a 2-1 lead.

UTA senior Michael Oberto made only his fourth start of the season in Sunday first game and worked 6.1 innings and allowed one run. The righty didn't figure in the decision.

The Mavericks and Cowboys were forced to play two after Saturday's game was postponed due to wet field conditions.
