Final Stats
STILLWATER, Okla. - UT Arlington lost 74-35 to No. 21 Oklahoma State University Sunday afternoon at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
"Even though the stats don't show it, we did some good things today," UT Arlington coach Krista Gerlich said. "We forced them to reset their offense a couple of times and we did some good things offensively too."
UTA fell behind early and never recovered against the nationally-ranked OSU squad. The Cowgirls returned four of their NCAA tournament starters from last season.
Seniors Briana Walker and Laila Suleiman led UTA with 11 points. Walker also grabbed six boards. Senior Desherra Nwanguma grabbed eight rebounds and scored six points for the Mavs.
"Desherra played really well. He points won't show it, but she worked really hard and did some really good things for us," Gerlich said.
The Mavericks broke into double figure scoring when Walker scored a pair of free throws, leaving UTA trailing 32-11. Suleiman closed out the first half with two free throws leaving the Mavericks down 41-23.
UTA picked up five fouls in the first five minutes of the second-half allowing OSU to extend its lead. Nwanguma knocked down a jump shot to give UTA its first second half points six minutes into the half.
Freshman Allea Harris scored her first collegiate points with a layup against the Cowgirls. Walker and Suleiman score late to help close the gap.
The women head home to College Park Center for the home opener Thursday against Incarnate Word at 7:30 p.m. for Homecoming Week.
