ARLINGTON, Texas -- The UT Arlington women's tennis team begin its season with a 4-1 loss to Old Dominion Sunday at the UTA Tennis Center.
"I thought we played great doubles today," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "The competition spirit was there and we will get better with every match."
The Mavericks began the day winning the doubles point after the No.2 and No. 3 pairings defeated their opponents. Giada D'ortona and Verena Scott, and Christine Foote and Katarina Dikosavljevic both defeated their opponent 8-3 to give UT Arlington a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Old Dominion fought back during singles quickly, winning the first three matches at the No. 3, 5 and 6 positions.
The Mavericks needed to win the other three singles to win the match. Dikosavljevic was defeated by her ODU opponent 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, and the Mavericks fell to 0-1 to begin the 2013 season.
Old Dominion improved to 5-2 on the season after winning its first four matches before falling to TCU and North Texas.
The women will be back on the court Saturday, Feb. 9 as they take on No. 30 Rice in Houston.
