BSB: UALR runs past UTA 12-2

March 12, 2013

Box Score

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas - The University of Arkansas at Little Rock put up 12 runs in the first five innings to move past UT Arlington 12-2 Tuesday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field.

The Trojans (10-7) scored in each of the first five innings, including a five-run fourth inning, on the way to winning the first meeting between the teams in Little Rock. The Mavericks end a four-game road trip with a 1-3 record and are now 4-2 against UALR all-time.

Ryan Walker was one of only three Mavericks to notch a hit in the contest on his first inning home run. Matt Shortall extended his hitting streak to seven games with two hits and Peter Cuomo also added a hit.

Walker opened scoring in the top of the first with his first career home run, sending the ball over the right field wall. UALR answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning before UTA would tie it up on its next at bat.

The Mavericks had the bases loaded in the second on three consecutive walks, but added just one run. Derek Miller brought the run home on a one-out grounder to the shortstop scoring Brandon Lawrence from third.

UALR regained the lead again in the second inning a two-out single up the middle of the infield and then added another run in the third on a home run to left. The lead became 7-2 for the Trojans in the fourth. Ben Crumpton sent a two-and-two pitch over the right field wall for a three-run home run.

Walks in the fifth inning helped push three runs across the plate for the Trojans to extend their lead to 12-2.

The Mavericks return to action on Friday when they host the McNeese State Cowboys to begin a three-game series. Following the weekend series, UTA takes on TCU at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Tuesday, March 19.
