BSB: Aggies upend Mavs, 7-0

March 26, 2013

Final Stats

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - UT Arlington managed just four hits in a 7-0 loss to Texas A&M in a Tuesday night nonconference matchup before 3,769 fans at Blue Bell Park.

The Mavericks had their two-game winning streak snapped in falling to 12-12. The Aggies (18-8) avenged a 3-2 loss to UT Arlington last season in College Station.

The Aggies put runs up on the board in the second, third and fourth innings. Troy Stein tripled to center to start the second and scored on a groundout to give A&M the early lead.

An inning later, Cole Lankford stroked a two-out, two-run single to center with the bases loaded to make it 3-0. Texas A&M added to its advantage in the fourth with a solo home run from Daniel Mengden.

UT Arlington starter Keegan Hucul (0-1) allowed the first four A&M runs on four hits through four innings. Chad Nack gave up another two runs (one earned) in two innings of relief. Kennedy Winn gave up one run in two innings.

Aggies starter Rafael Pineda (2-2) kept UTA off balance at the plate. The junior righty allowed just three hits through 7.1 innings, striking out three without a walk. Pineda did leave in the eighth after UTA loaded the bases.

With one out, Brandon Lawrence singled up the middle for the Mavericks' second hit of the game. J.M. Twichell followed with his second hit and Travis Sibley was hit by a pitch, loading the bags for pinch hitter Peter Cuomo.

The Aggies turned to reliever A.J. Hinter, who struck out Cuomo and pinch hitter Jake Pinchback to end UT Arlington's best scoring chance of the night.

The Mavericks went three-up, three-down in six of the first seven innings. Twichell did single to open the third and advanced to second on Travis Sibley's sacrifice bunt. Twichell, though, was left stranded.

The Mavericks resume Western Athletic Conference play Friday night at 6:30 with the start of a three-game series at Louisiana Tech.
