ARLINGTON, Texas-- The UT Arlington men's tennis team fell 5-2 to Marquette University on Thursday in a nonconference match at the UTA Tennis Center. The Mavericks dropped to 6-9 on the season.
Marquette started by winning the doubles point at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to head into singles competition with a 1-0 lead over the Mavericks.
A pair of freshmen stepped up for UTA, as Carlos Arbiza and Marek Pesicka each won his singles match. Arbiza took the victory at the No. 3 spot with a 6-1, 6-4 win, while Pesicka won at the No. 5 in a close 6-4, 7-6 battle.
The Mavericks host Western Athletic Conference opponent UTSA Saturday at the UTA Tennis Center at 10 a.m. UT Arlington is looking its first conference win of the season.
