Biography
Carlos Arbiza was named a graduate assistant in August 2016 following a successful career as a Maverick. Arbiza helped steer program to new heights in his four years with UTA, clipped by the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2006 and seventh championship title in history.
Prior to his move to Arlington, Arbiza was once the No. 1 ranked player in his home country of Venezuela and a member of its national team. Arbiza compiled a 58-48 record with the Mavs and earned accolades from two different conferences. His freshman season (2012-13) saw him receive Second Team All-WAC Doubles honors with Yauheni Yakauleu. As a sophomore, Arbiza was named to the All-SBC Singles First Team in UTA's inaugural season in the league. He also shared a No. 63 ITA National Doubles ranking with Javier Perez, leading to All-SBC doubles first team recognition. The Maverick led his team with an 11-3 singles record in 2014-15 and continued on to garner All-SBC singles recognition in his senior campaign. With Arbiza as captain in 2015-16, UTA claimed its first SBC Championship and set a program record with 18 wins.Â
