ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington allowed just five hits on the way to a 6-1 win against No. 12 Oklahoma on Tuesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The Mavericks made it two consecutive victories over the Sooners and moved to 8-4 on the season. OU lost its second game, falling to 11-2. Chase Weaver pitched 5.1 innings in his first start of the season, giving up just one run and struck out five for his first win of the season. The Mavericks got a hit from eight of the nine starters in the lineup and 11 hits overall.

"It starts and ends on the mound," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "Those guys did a great job and we can ask for any more than what we got out of Chase. I thought we scored when we needed to and took advantage of a couple mistakes. We just played good baseball tonight."

Matt Shortall led UTA on offense with two hits and two RBI, while Ryan Walker and Justin Copeland each added a pair of hits.

Daniel Garcia opened up scoring for the Mavericks in the second. His line-drive single up the middle scored Justin Copeland from second. Travis Sibley followed with a single to score Jake Pinchback from third.

After two quiet innings for UTA, the Mavericks would add three more runs in the fifth. Ryan Walker followed up a one-out walk from Derek Miller single to left field to get the offense started. Darien McLemore sent the first pitch he saw to right field and UTA took advantage of an error by the Sooners right fielder to add a run.

Matt Shortall followed that up with a double to the left-center field wall to drive in two and extended the lead to 5-0.

Weaver's shutout bid was extinguished in the sixth inning following a walk. Andy Scott entered the game and after two wild pitches, the Sooners runner crossed the plate. Scott would retire the next batter on a strikeout

The Mavericks travel to Lubbock on Friday for a weekend series against Texas Tech beginning at 6:30 p.m.
