ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington basketball tipped the 2014-15 season off with a bang at Maverick Madness Presented by Texas Health Ben Hogan Sports Medicine at College Park Center on Tuesday night.
"Our guys love it and it is a great opportunity for the fans to see what we have to offer," UT Arlington men's coach Scott Cross said. "It is a great way to kick off the season and get things started."
The teams showed off their skills by running various drills as the respective coaches introduced the 2014-15 teams to the fans. As well as the UTA men's and women's teams, the Movin' Mavs and Lady Movin' Mavs also helped rally the fans.
Setting the stage for Maverick Madness, the UT Arlington Athletics Maverick Club held its first-ever Tip-Off Reception in the Maverick Club Hospitality Suite. The event gave Maverick Club members and fans alike the opportunity to meet the team and coaches, as well as a getting a team preview from each team's coach.
"It is really important for our fans and booster club to know who they are support and not just the team, but to know them personally," UT Arlington women's coach Krista Gerlich said. "It is a great event. The Maverick Club has done a great job in getting it organized and I hope it's an annual event."
Gerlich said that her favorite part of the event is seeing the students and support get excited about UT Arlington basketball.
"There is no doubt that kids play harder and more inspired when they have fans in the stands," Gerlich said. "An event like this gets the fans excited and gets us excited. It generates the excitement to help get things started.
Both squads tip-off their seasons on Nov. 14 with the Lady Mavericks playing host Missouri Valley College, while the men's team travels to face Bradley. Season and individual game tickets for UTA basketball are available on UTATickets.com.
