MONROE, Louisiana - UT Arlington women's basketball lost 70-65 Wednesday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum to UL Monroe.
"This is a disappointing loss because I felt like we didn't come and compete I just don't understand that with everything we're trying to accomplish," UT Arlington coach Krista Gerlich said. "This team knows better than that and they deserve better than that. I did think that Desherra (Nwanguma) really came out in the second half and competed and she tried to win."
The Mavericks win streak came to an end as they dropped to 3-19 overall and 2-9 in the Sun Belt Conference. Senior center Desherra Nwanguma led the Mavericks with 28 points and seven rebounds. Fellow seniors Laila Suleiman and Briana Walker combined 23 points.
Both teams battled in the first half with five lead changes and six tied scores, but UT Arlington was able to pull ahead 27-24 at halftime.
Nwanguma had nine points and three rebounds with Suleiman scoring seven points as the Mavericks shot 44.4 percent from the floor in the first half.
Suleiman knocked down a 3-pointer to start the second half to give the Mavericks their largest lead of the game at 14. ULM went on a 10-2 run to make its way back into the ball game. The Warhawks scored their last 10 points on free throws to claim the win.
UT Arlington is back on the court Saturday to host Texas State at 5 p.m. at College Park Center for the annual Breast Cancer Awareness game.
