ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington finished off a successful homestand Tuesday night by pounding out a 14-3 victory over Baylor before 660 fans at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The Mavericks improved to 9-16 overall and 1-1 against the Bears (13-11) this season. The 11-run margin of victory was the most by UTA in the series with Baylor. The Mavericks also went 4-2 on the six-game homestand, including 3-0 against nonconference foes.

"We got up by four early and swung it all night long," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "We swung it pretty good Saturday and Sunday also, so maybe we're breaking out of it a little bit.

"Our pitchers did a nice job. We struck out 13 guys. It was just a good all-around win."

Matt Shortall and Ryan Bottger led the UTA offensive uprising with three hits apiece. Shortall also had his 37th career double, tying him with Clay Gould, Trey Hillman and Jeff Stephens for ninth on UT Arlington's all-time list.

The Mavericks racked up 14 hits. Derek Miller scored four times, with Bottger and Peter Cuomo scoring three runs each. Greg McCall had three RBI, including his fifth home run of the season.

UTA's Daniel Milliman, making his first start this season, breezed through the first three innings without giving up a hit and picked up the win. Milliman (2-0) worked four innings, giving up one run on two hits while striking out three.

The Mavericks took a 4-0 lead in the first by batting around, including three hits and two Baylor errors. Miller started it off with a single to left and scored on Bottger's double into the right-field corner.

Bottger, Shortall and Justin Copeland also scored in the inning. Two of the runs against BU starter Ryan Smith were unearned.

McCall's solo shot to right extended UTA's lead to 5-0 in the third. The Mavericks added another three runs in the fourth on RBI singles from Copeland and Bottger, and McCall's sac fly.

The Mavericks resume Sun Belt play with the start of a three-game series Friday at South Alabama.
