ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington baseball team had the unique privilege of spending time with Special Olympians before a recent home game. Players took part in hitting drills inside the Justin D. Wilson Batting Facility at Clay Gould Ballpark.
"It's awesome," UTA senior Matt Shortall said. "It's really nice to see how happy they are to be here. It's really a great time for them, and it's fun for our guys to see how great this game is and how much joy it can bring to somebody's life just by teaching them to hit a baseball."
Fifty Special Olympic athletes from Area 11 (Greater Fort Worth) attended the TCU game on Tuesday. These Special Olympics athletes will be participating in the Special Olympic Spring Games at Maverick Stadium on April 11 and 12.
"My favorite part was whenever someone got a hit, everyone was cheering," sophomore Darien McLemore said.
"They come out here with such as great attitude. It really makes you reflect on how you go about everyday life and everything you do."
