T&F: Women's team earns USTFCCCA academic award

ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women's track and field team has earned 2014 Division I All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the organization has announced. As a group, the Mavericks secured a cumulative grade-point average of 3.02.

It completed a season sweep of team academic honors for the women, who earlier grabbed the recognition for the cross country season.

A total of 208 women's teams and 116 men's track and field teams earned the distinction as a result of earning a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher.

The Mavericks also had five individual honorees. For the women, Shae Johnson, who owns a 3.58 GPA in kinesiology, earned a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, which honors student-athletes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 who ranked among the top 96 in an individual event during the indoor season or participated in any round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Four individuals on the men's side also claimed places on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team. The men's award winners were: Ivan Storic (3.35 in business), John Frnka (3.31 in engineering), Renan Palma (3.30 in economics) and Christian Clark (3.25 in communication).
