ARLINGTON, Texas. - After a successful Fall 2014 season, UT Arlington men's and women's tennis kick off their Spring 2015 season at home. The Lady Mavs compete on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 11 a.m. against the Mizzou Tigers, followed by the men's team taking on the Incarnate Word Cardinals at 12 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
Head Coach Diego Benitez begins his seventh season at the helm of UTA tennis. Hopes are high for the Mavericks this Spring 2015 season, as the team racked up over 20 wins and brought home 5 titles during the Fall season.
"I'm very happy with the shape of our players, we are playing really well right now," Head coach Diego Benitez said. "We have played a lot of doubles and situational points in the last couple weeks making sure that everyone gets back into match mode."
Both men and women are set to compete in 17 non-conference matches throughout the spring season. The men open Sun Belt Conference play January 25 against the Troy Trojans at the UTA Tennis Center. The women's team has a few weeks before their SBC opener on March 20 at Louisiana Monroe.
Benitez is expecting great things from both teams this year. Coming off a great fall season he is excited to get his team back on the court and look ahead to conference play.
"Everyone is excited and looking forward to their dual matches this weekend," Benitez said. "They are really focused on Sun Belt competition and they know that each match is a time to prepare for when conference matches arrive later in the year."
