MT: Mavs drop first conference match

ARLINGTON, Texas - UTA men's tennis took on Sun Belt opponent Troy Saturday afternoon, but came up short after a tough battle losing the match 4-0 at the UTA Tennis Center.

The Mavericks started the day with doubles pairing up Carlos Arbiza and Daniel Armengol at the No. 1 spot competing against Troy's Pablo Moreno and Giovani Samaha. After a grueling match, Arbiza and Armengol were defeated 7-5.

Sebastian Erimicioiu and Johnathan Gonzalez stepped up to the competition and defeated Hassan Ndayishimye and Andy Lau 6-2. However, their victory was not enough to win the doubles point as Mario Muniesa and Daniel Echeverry came up short in their match.

The Mavericks rallied together to prepare for dual play but once again lost the fight. The Troy Trojans came out swinging and defeated Muniesa 6-2, 6-3; Echeverry 6-3, 6-2 and Armengol 6-1, 6-1. This gave them the advantage they needed to take over the match and walk away with a 4-0 win.

The Mavs will be back in action Jan. 31 to take on Midwestern State at the UTA Tennis Center.
