ARLINGTON, Texas -
The UTA men and women's tennis team defeated Midwestern State University Friday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center. The women came up with another 7-0 sweep, while the men regained momentum winning 5-2.

After coming off a big weekend of sweeps against Tarleton State and UIW, the women overwhelmed the Mustangs. Freshman Augustina Serio and senior Christine Foote paired up together to take on Midwestern's Madeline Schorlemmer and Carrie Casey in the No. 3 spot and took the first victory of the day winning 6-3.

"I'm very happy with the overall performance of our team," UTA coach Diego Benitez said. "The women started very strong and never looked back, staying in the present and stayed focus until they got the victory."

Shortly after the dynamic duo of Astrid Gehre and Elizabeth Thoms defeated Taylor Coffman and Kayla Casey in the No. 1 spot to earn the Mavericks the doubles point.

At the same time the men were battling it out with the Mustangs in doubles play led by Sebastian Erimicioiu and Johnathan Gonzalez. After a long fight the pair fell to the Mustangs 6-3, along with Stefan Williams and Mario Muniesa causing the Mavericks to lose the doubles point.

With great wins by Gonzalez (6-3, 4-6, 6-1) and Daniel Armengol (6-3, 6-2) in dual play, the men rallied back winning five out of the six matches.

"The men didn't play great doubles," Benitez said, "but they were able to come back against a very intense team. I'm very happy with the quick work we did in singles to level the match and ultimately get the win."

The men are getting ready to face a big match against Rice in Houston next weekend.

"It will be a good chance to show all the hard work we are doing and compete against a great team," Benitez said.

The women will be back at home next weekend for another doubleheader against Dallas Baptist and Seminole State.
